Sackboy. Fo’ REAL.
We’re all totally in love with our little Sackboy character, we’ve spent a couple years watching him run, jump and slap his way though dozens of levels, and the little chap has so much personality we could almost believe he’s real.
So our collective jaws hit the floor when we saw what one of our artists MOTHERS had made, Silvia’s actually made Sackboy, for real, in all his knitted and stitched glory! It’s so good we wondered if we’d hired the right member of the family to work here! (Not really, her son is making artwork for the game that will blow you away) but we can certainly see where he gets his talent from..
So adorable. It makes me want to hug him so tightly that his zip bursts and his button eyes pop out. But I won’t.

To keep in the theme of “create” if Sackboy is mass marketed you should make it all white and give people the option to dye it themselves. Just a suggestion.

You guys should included a custom sackboy virtual store within the game itself. When people want a real sackboy with their finish design in the game, you guys should have an ordering process like a “Sackboy Factory” or some sort to send custom orders through the game. It will be convenient for us and you. It could also sell more LBP games by saying “The only way to get the real sackboy is owning the game” or something like that. Just my thoughts……

so what came first? the perfectly scaled exact shaped star-spring-things? or the in game assets? also… the dragon’s eyes and pattern are a little too like the in game version for me to believe that this was made by a hobbyist. Either existed before the art assets (in which case kudos on basing your art on a really cool cuddly toy) or this has been manufactured. Either way, I think the consensus is that they’d be very popular. Maybe a little something to entice people to spend a little extra on the boxed version rather than the PSN download?
Oh and if I’m very wrong and Silvia did actually hand-make sackboy and all his bits and bobs, I apologise. Nice work… I have a sweater that needs darning, any chance I could send it? ;D

OK guys – you seriously have to pursue this. It looks like LBP has already surpassed what even you guys, and especially Sony could have envisioned. This could push it into cultural phenomenon territory. I am 35 (today actually – Happy Birthday to me!), married and even I want one of these – badly.
You must strike some sort of deal with a toy manufacturer to market these things. I hope Silvia has registered these toys as a trademark – or is about to – because she deserves to be a very rich woman.

Ever since I saw the first bit of info on Little Big Planet, I’ve been dreaming of each Sackboy character in my possession in the form of some sort of plush… It’s one of the first responses I had to my boyfriend who so kindly introduced me! To Media Molecule, as a smaller company I know that you take your community’s comments very seriously, and as you can see, EVERYBODY wants a Sackboy! If you miss out on this marketing chance then you are fools!

The game looks AMAZING, but only true Playstation 3 owners have found out about it, marketing is going to need to be huge for you guys, most of my mates didn’t know what it was until I showed them!

My friend has made a Sackboy as real as they could be.

By looking at the picture, I can tell you that you can learn the techniques for the sackboy by taking a few other patterns and modifying them. Starting with the legs, basically knit a scarf, the longer the scarf, the thicker the leg. The length of the leg will then be determined by the width of the scarf. When finished, roll the scarf up tight and stitch the end to wherever it is on the leg. For the arm, it’s basically the same thing, just not as thick (the hands are stitched on separately, and you’re kind of on your own figuring the hands out) For the head and body, you take a pattern for a baby beanie, but instead of closing it at the end, you taper it down to only a few stitches, then widen it again after that, for about the same length as the head, then close it off at the end. About 4-5 rows before you start the body, bind stitches to create the top of the mouth opening, for about 1/3 of the way around the head, and on the next row, cast on new stitches for the bottom part of the mouth, basically creating an opening. knit 2 circles, the same size. One for the top of the head and one for the mouth. stuff the body, tie a piece of yarn around the neck, to keep the stuffing in place, stitch one of the circles into the mouth opening, stuff the head, then stitch the last circle to the top of the head, closing it off. Using whatever method, attach the remaining body parts to the body, and if you made hands, stitch them to the arms. lastly, add a non functional zipper (it’s a lot easier, and probably will look better)to the body, and put on the eyes. Then begin customizing! If anyone can make my descroption into an actual working pattern, let us all know.

hang on a sec this character is almost identical to Pullover,a little boys knitted toy that came to life at night.His nan knitted it out of his favourite but outgrown jumper…it was a childrens programme in the early 80’s …and my daughter still has her ‘Pullover’ to this day.
There has to be some sort of wire inside them, as a frame… you cant get that shape with just Knitting!,
I made one, and it came out so good!, i made the Space Suit as well
(it comes on and off), its not as hard as it looks, start out with a frame or wire mesh. then start knitting over it.(leaving a place for the zipper)
after that, the only thing hard is the hands!
