Tearaway.me Companion Site Removal (Effective 13th August 2026)

Hello, coMmunity! We wanted to share a change coming to Tearaway (PS Vita) & Tearaway Unfolded (PS4). This change will become effective as of 13th August 2026.

We have decided to remove the official Tearaway companion site, Tearaway.me. However, as of today, 13th May 2026, the papercrafts will be available on our studio website, www.mediamolecule.com, where you’re reading this blog. This means you’ll still be able to access, download, print, cut and stick your papercrafts together by accessing this website. We thank you for all the time spent here on the site and all the experiences you’ve shared along the way.

When playing Tearaway & Tearaway Unfolded there will be some changes to online features which connect to Tearaway.me along with instances where the games will continue to mention Tearaway.me. Below please find examples of where users may encounter these changes.

Once again, we appreciate every one of you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing more of your papercrafts!

Thanks!

What are some of the changes I may encounter when playing Tearaway & Tearaway Unfolded, as a result of the Tearaway.me companion site being removed?

We’ve set out below some of the instances of what you can expect when playing:

NOTE: Error messages encountered are due to attempts to connect to the Tearaway.me server.

On Tearaway (PS Vita)

Points where the player can attempt to perform an action and can progress but will then be given an error message:

There may be times when the option to ‘upload photos’ to Tearaway.me is present. If selected, the player can generally continue playing while the game attempts to connect to Tearaway.me in the background. After a timeout occurs in the background, the player is given an error message.

This can occur at certain points in the game, including:

  • Taking a photo of first papercraft and selecting to update the player’s collection.
  • Attempting to upload photos that have already been taken.
  • Selecting the option to update papercraft individually so that it is unlocked on Tearaway.me.
  • Modifying the option to have a public Tearaway.me profile.

Points where the player can attempt to perform an action and they momentarily cannot progress:

If the player takes a photo with the camera and then immediately chooses to upload the photo to Tearaway.me, the game will pause for 30 seconds while waiting for failure. After this timeout, the player will be able to continue with gameplay.

Mentions of Tearaway.me when playing:

Whilst playing Tearaway, the player will still see mentions of Tearaway.me, including:

  • There is a Tearaway.me flow shown to the player when taking a photo of their first papercraft.
  • There is a Tearaway.me section in the menu.
  • There is an option on any photo to upload to Tearaway.me.

On Tearaway Unfolded (PS4)

Points where the player may receive an error message while playing Tearaway Unfolded:

There are instances where players may choose an action or select an option which attempts to connect to Tearaway.me. In such instances, players will receive an error message: There was an error communication with tearaway.me.

Please note this message is generic and will be displayed every time the player attempts to connect to the server.

This can occur at certain points in the game, including:

  • The player will receive an error message when trying to boot as the game will try and sync papercraft/profile on the initial load.
  • After taking a photo in-game, there is a button to upload the photo to Tearaway.me. When the player selects this, they will receive the same error message as above.
  • In the main menu, there is an option to be directed to Tearaway.me. When the player first tries to select this, they will receive the same error message.
    • A section of this menu also features a selection of user photos pulled from Tearaway.me. When this fails to fetch user photos, the player will be shown a selection of default images. Whilst there is a ‘Reload photos’ option, selecting this will fail and produce the same error message.
    • In this section, the player will also receive a unique profile URL connected to Tearaway.me. Heading to this link out-of-game will no longer work.
    • The photo viewer is also displayed within the main menu. If the player selects a photo, the “upload photo” option is available but if selected, the game once again produces the same error message.

Mentions of Tearaway.me when playing:

Whilst playing Tearaway Unfolded, the player will still see mentions of Tearaway.me, including:

  • There is a mention of uploading papercrafts and photos to Tearaway.me during the game’s introduction, for example, in the standing stones during gameplay.
  • There are several mentions of Tearaway.me in the ‘Squirrel Guides’. There is a specific mention of Tearaway.me along with others relating to Papercrafts which advise the player to visit Tearaway.me.

When selecting the option to “Unlock Papercraft”, there is a specific Papercraft area that mentions Tearaway.me.
